Document Management Solutions

Have you ever heard of document management system? According to wikipedia, this system is used to track and store electronic documents and/or images of paper documents. These systems dealt with paper documents, which included not only printed and published documents, but also photographs, prints, etc.I have to ask my husband about document management solutions because I really have no idea how it works.
